I'm back, but not actually here ...

I can hardly believe it's been so long since I last posted here. I grovel at your feet ...
I have loads of excuses, one of which is that I went away to the Festival of Romance in Bedford for the weekend and even though that's only three days, there's a lot of preparation required for such events. Like how many new pairs of shoes will fit in one's case along with all the lipstick and spare tights.

Anyway, a fab time was had by all and I got to meet up with some very lovely ladies, one of which is Lizzie Lamb . Here we are on the Saturday:

Something Lizzie said to me recently gave me an idea for a special guest post over at Ramblings from a Chaotic Mind. Curious? Of course you are. So why not pop over and have a look and (if you're in the US*) there's a rather gorgeous giveaway going on too. It involves scantily clad men if you're hesitating ...

*I'm wondering if I should run a similar giveaway for my lovely UK readers. What do you think?

The "Next Big Thing" Blog Stop...

Welcome to the "Next Big Thing" Blog Tour - I was thrilled when fellow romance writers, Lucy Felthouse , Rachel Brimble and Phillipa Ashley, tagged me to continue the chain - be sure to read to the end of my post to check out the three great authors I've tagged next!

Okay, so the idea is we talk about our current or next release...which means I have a good opportunity to share the excitement of my brand new Indulgence book!

What is the title of your latest  book?
   The Spanish Billionaire’s Hired Bride.

Where did the idea come from for the book?
Before I was published I was told how important the first page of the first chapter of a book was. If you could manage to grab the reader by the throat and keep hold of their attention until they were hooked, you’d be on to a winner.  So I figured why not do exactly that? Hence, Ricardo Almanza has his hands around Helen Marshall’s neck from the word go!

 • What genre does your book fall under?
    Contemporary romance.

 • What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
Helen Marshall would be Billie Piper and Ricardo would be Francis J Cura .

What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
Secrets, sacrifice and a sexually explosive marriage of convenience in the sun-baked Mediterranean.

 • Is your book self-published or represented by an agency?
Neither. This book is published by Indulgence, an Entangled Publishing imprint. And I don’t have an  agent. Perhaps I should … :0)

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
I wrote the first draft of this book in seven weeks. And, yes, before you ask, it almost killed me! It needed a lot of work after that initial draft though and the finished manuscript is very, very different.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Hmm, well it’s a marriage of convenience story with plenty of sex, so I’ll be greedy and compare it to The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst.  Jennifer is lovely, she won’t mind!

Who or what inspired you to write this book?
As is often the case, Ibiza town itself inspired me. If I fall in love with a place I always want to write a story set there, it kind of keeps the holiday magic alive for me. And Ricardo was inspired by a mysterious male underwear model in Marks & Spencers …

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
I've tried to write a really luxurious book that whisks the reader off into a fantasy world for a few hours. The sun is hot, and so is the sex. Ricardo has it all, but I've made myself share him. There’s fine wine, delicious food, super-yachts and mind-blowingly expensive everything, but I've tried not to over do it. Thus, there’s a sprinkling of manure and a doner kebab (gyro) – but not at the same time!

To see what some of my writer friends are doing, I’m going to tag.

Three very talented ladies, check ‘em out!

Quick update

Busy old week, I'm afraid, but you can see what I've been up to in two places today.

Gorgeous Annie Seaton is letting me use her writing chair down under here and I'm also scoffing biscuits with the Minxes here. And they're all getting me to tell them things ...

A bigger post tomorrow, I hope and just because you're all so nice and I own this pic :

And the winner is ...

Ann's answer to how often Ricardo, my delicious new Spaniard, exercises and where and how he does it was:

He must do at least 200 to get abs like that. He most likely has a girl on his lap at the same time ...
With the girl in mind, he would be in his own private glass roofed gym in his penthouse.

It paints quite a picture, Ann, I love it!

Hobbit the kitten enjoyed picking a winner too.Cardboard boxes and scrunched up bits of paper are such fun.  Irresistible in fact ...

And this particular competition entry is simply delicious.

He did go completely crazy with it!

So congratulations to Ann and could you contact me with your email address? I can't seem to get through on the one you left in the comments.:0)

Thanks to everyone who entered.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Spanish Billionaire giveaway competition!

It's Friday, so let's have a bit of fun. I'd really love for one of my gorgeous blog followers to win a free eBook copy of The Spanish Billionaire's Hired Bride.

Here's how we'll do it: Ricardo, my new Spanish Billionaire hero is fairly well toned, agreed? And he's not shy about getting his kit off either. So, all you have to do is leave a comment telling me how many abdominal exercises he does every day and where he does it. Easy!

There's no correct answer, but the longer your answers are the bigger the bits of paper will be that get scrunched up and tipped out of a bin for my new kitten to attack. Be as creative and detailed as you like. The first crackly paper ball in his mouth will be the winner.

I'll run the competition for a whole week, ending on Friday 26th October - so you can have more than one go if you like and I'll announce the winner on Saturday 27th October.

Oh, and I'd better introduce you to my new male beast. Meet Hobbit ...

The Spanish Billionaire's Hired Bride is here!

That's right, you're not seeing things - this is my second eBook release in under a week. So I'm not a pretty sight right now and neither is the house, but Ricardo Almanza certainly is ...

He bought her with cold, hard cash, but can she stop him from stealing her heart?

Blackmailed to marry against his will, Ricardo Almanza needs a wife before he’s thirty, and time is running out. A notorious playboy, marriage is the last thing he wants, but his stepmother’s sexy, debt-ridden personal assistant is the perfect solution. He makes her a business deal she can’t refuse—one million euros for three months as his wife. He might even enjoy being married to her … if she doesn’t kick the crap out of him again.

Helen Marshall can’t believe she’s considering Almanza’s outrageous proposal, but she must help clear her parents’ debts or they face financial ruin. The small print on the marriage contract changes to read three months as his wife in every way—including in the bedroom. Has she gotten in too deep, or will she need a new contract addendum, extending their marriage forever?

It gets hotter than Ibiza in August in this one, readers, so you have been warned!

The Devil to Pay is released!

Yep, that's right folks, The Devil to Pay is now live.

Official blurb

Rianna Peters is used to struggle. To support her family, she works as both accountant for the town quarry and clerk at the local grocery. Trapped in the small Welsh town, she wonders if love has passed her by. Then a disastrous encounter with a handsome Italian and a packet of washing powder fires her fantasies. However, her dream man has come to close the town’s major employer, the money-losing quarry.

Mining CEO Daniel Bracchi is stunned to discover the clumsy but attractive store clerk in the quarry office. Although he’s against mixing business with pleasure, the feisty Rianna intrigues him. Despite his feelings, his no-strings romantic approach and the town’s potential destruction stand between them.

From green South Wales to glittering Portofino, they fight their attraction as Rianna’s small town grit clashes with Daniel’s privileged attitude. Between them lie secrets, a community’s survival, and their own bruised hearts. Are the stakes too high for even love to overcome?

The seed of an idea for The Devil to Pay was sown in a supermarket. After putting my accountancy career on hold and spending a decade as a stay at home mum, I took the plunge and applied for a weekend job to rebuild my confidence. I did Rianna’s shelf-stacking job for twelve hours a week for two years. The small monthly wage paid for everything related to my dream of becoming an author and the inspiration flowed. The opening scene of The Devil to Pay is a direct result of this time. I never dropped washing powder everywhere, but there was fabric conditioner, very smelly antiseptic and a large quantity of pasta sauce …

Available as an eBook from: , and The Wild Rose Press

Have a great weekend everyone!

Phillipa Ashley asks: Is your hero for you – or your heroine?

I'm thrilled to welcome award winning author, Phillipa Ashley to my blog today to share her thoughts on romance heroes.

Is your hero for you – or your heroine?
At a recent talk, Sue Moorcroft asked a room full of romance writers a very interesting question:
‘Are your heroes written for you or for yourself?’

My hand shot up instantly: for me, of course. Isn’t everyone the same?
Er, by the silence in the room, it seems not.

One category writer was incredulous: her heroes are for her heroine alone. “I’m happy for her and him bu he always belongs to her.”

Then I was worried because I end up falling a little for all of my men, despite being very happily married to the same fabulous man for the past 25 years.

But then the same writer said: ‘Oh don't be.  I know a very successful writer who confessed that she writes every book with the same hero who she’s fallen in love with. She even uses the same name and only changes it at the end.  His motivations and actions are different but in her mind, he’s hers and always will be.’
Well, I don’t exactly do that, I’m more of tart in that I’ve been faithful to a host of different men ove the course of 8 books - but it’s an interesting concept.

Perhaps, in a way, our heroes can only ever be variations on a theme. They have to be men we could fall in love with – by the end of the story at least, and as we know what makes a man a real hero in our own minds, that character can’t really deviate too far from our ideal.
He may look different, act differently, but fundamentally, he will  take the course of action that we as his creator, think is the right one.

Phillipa's latest book, Miranda’s Mount, was published as an E-book on October 4thby Piatkus Entice and is a sexy, funny contemporary romance set in Cornwall.

When Miranda finds herself fighting for her home, her job and her heart, sleeping with the enemy may not be the best tactic…
With no family of her own, Miranda Marshall has developed a healthy respect – some would say obsession – with other people’s histories. As property manager of a spectacular island castle in Cornwall, she’s made St Merryn’s Mount one of the UK’s most popular heritage attractions. While she may have the castle running like clockwork, Miranda hasn’t bargained on its sexy owner returning to claim his birthright. Dark, handsome and with a rakish reputation, Jago St Merryn not only looks like a pirate but is intent on flogging the Mount to a soulless leisure corporation. Miranda faces the battle of her life as she tries to persuade him to face up to his past and continue the St Merryn dynasty. But Jago has his own reasons for jumping ship and when he throws down the gauntlet to Miranda, she’s forced to delve into painful memories she’d much rather keep hidden…

You can grab your copy at and right now!

Phillipa loves to hear from readers and you can find out more about her at her website or maybe say hello on Twitter -  @phillipaashley .

Dark Sun Rising and giveaway with BL Bonita!

Please welcome the lovely BL Bonita and enter her contest for a chance to win a free download of the  utterly fabulous Dark Sun Rising.

Thank you for having me here today, Rachel. Even though our journey with Embrace Books was short, I consider myself lucky to have you as a friend because of it!

For those of you intrigued and maybe a little inspired by the Wild West, I have a treat for you today. Somebody is going to win a download of Dark Sun Rising! If forbidden love in the old west is up your alley, be sure to enter the contest!

Picture it…a lawless town surrounded by the gorgeous Sierra Nevada Mountains, where a beautiful and spirited woman works hard to keep her emporium business afloat. Not only does her competition threaten her livelihood, they threaten her very life when she saves a handsome buffalo soldier. Dark Sun Rising is an emotionally gripping story with a controversial look into the life of a black man who earned his freedom, and fell in love with a white woman. The story of Charlotte and Avery is timeless, for no matter how hard they struggled in the face of racism and jealousy, in the end, they had each other.

Dark Sun Rising is the first of many forbidden love stories I’m working on. Interracial love in those times not only caused a stir, it put lives at risk. And what is a love story without risk, right?

From tall, handsome and brooding gunslingers to the simplicity of life back then, the old west has always inspired me. I would’ve been one of the few women who’d dare to wear breeches and carry a peacemaker. I would’ve drunk whiskey with the likes of the rowdiest men and entertained my fellow ruffians with a tune on the saloon piano. You would not find me mending clothes or sipping tea with the ladies! And being in an interracial relationship myself, you can bet your breeches I’d be causing a stir in the Wild West! *g*

Praise for Dark Sun Rising:

"Readers who thrive on stories of empowered women and sexy, brooding men will savor this historical tale of interracial love." Publishers Weekly

“This read is for those who like their love stories both explicit and explosive, with a mix of strong women and sexy men!” Library Journal

Dark Sun Rising

His sin is the color of his skin. Her love is his salvation…and the greatest danger.

Life in a mountain town is hard for gently raised Charlotte Phillips, who has come to Hatchet Creek to help run her cousin’s emporium. When her cousin suddenly dies, she learns just how rough-and-tumble is the life of a business owner—especially when she steps in to stop the brutal whipping of a local colored man.

Avery Samms made the mistake of rejecting the advances of a married white woman, and he pays with the flesh on his back. With no doctor in town, he’s sure a slow agonizing death is his fate. Until a beautiful angel shocks everyone—especially Avery—by taking him home. Her heart may be in the right place, but now her business, even her very life, is in danger.

As Avery recovers, their connection grows stronger every day. There’s passion in her eyes, and purity in her heart that heals soul-deep wounds no one can see. One moment of irresistible desire bonds them in forbidden love.

Even as they plan to escape to a far-off haven, jealousy and revenge threaten to rip their world apart. Under a savage western sun, they must fight for their love…and their very lives.

It's all Greek to me ...

Golly, you turn your back for five minutes and look what happens; someone in Athens translates your book!

This is the Greek version of Kidnapped by the Greek Billionaire and I must say, I'm as thrilled with this cover as I was the original. So, if you need to brush up your Greek, here's the link to Anubis where you can grab a copy. Don't worry though,  you can still get the English version at Barnes & Noble , and .

October is going to be a lively old month for me, so watch this space for news and updates.

Have a wonderful weekend!

September? Is it? Crikey ...

It's been so long since I last blogged that I'd forgotten my Blogger password this morning, but here I am after a very long summer break. And the break was good. Fun, sun (just a little bit of that) and research trips cunningly disguised as frivolous days out with the children. So even though I wasn't here or doing social networky stuff, I was working. Kind of .

Here are some pictures of what we've been getting up to Chez Lyndhurst and they're all linked to the works in progress I have going on right now:

This is the magnificent front end of a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost at Beaulieu Motor Museum. This story kicks off with a rather scary Oligarch with a weakness for expensive vintage cars and a certain type of compliant female. I have just the woman for him. He's going to get quite a shock ...

A few yards away was this beast; a 1960's Wolesley. The one in my story is red and also has an owner that adores her. He's a Brit and somehow he's got to get a crutch, two tetchy adults and a crate of beer in there.

Ruthless ambition, corporate backbiting and a Greek socialite on the run in the depths of the New Forest. Luxury yacht charter doesn't get much tougher than this ...

This modern day Cinders had better get her vacuum cleaner out - this place has a LOT of fireplaces to clean. And she has serious authority issues. Watch out, mysterious hero, she's handy with an iron poker!

And finally some serious beach combing to mend a broken, cynical heart?

I didn't actually go here, but my lovely friend Annie Seaton did and very generously allowed me to use her pictures. Thank you, Annie, I'll make it down there someday!

So, I have a LOT of writing to finish, starting now . However, I'll be popping in and out as often as I can and have some lovely visitors scheduled on the calender too. And, please, nobody mention Christmas ...

Back soon!

Friday Indulgence

I'm talking about what I'll be getting up to tonight over at the Indulgence authors' blog today. Well, it IS Friday ...

I'll also be posting some pics next week of what I've been up to so far this summer holiday - so watch this space!

Friday, 20 July 2012

Summer is officially here

The weather lady said we're heading for a few sunny days down here in the south of England, maybe even a heatwave, which is typical now that we've got the flood pump working so nicely ...

Yep, in a few hours the children will be on their summer school holidays for a whole six weeks as well, so there's no ignoring the fact that summer really IS happening. Hurrah!

On reflection, the last two summers in my house were anything but relaxing; submissions, book deals, a publisher folding, deadlines and other Things That Simply Had To Be Done. However this year is different. I've a book (Kidnapped by the Greek Billionaire) that, as I write, is still in the top 20 Kindle series romance chart after being released in February by Entangled Publishing. My second novel, The Devil to Pay is all ready for release with The Wild Rose Press on October 10th 2012, and I'm awaiting edits on my third book that's contracted to Entangled as well. Other projects are lining up behinds the scenes too, so I'm very, very happy with my lot this year.

So I'm going to try and STOP for a few weeks and just 'be', because they won't be children forever.

This is me and the little Lyndhursts a few years ago in Ibiza. A wonderful place. An inspiring place ... But enough of all that romancey stuff for now.

I'll be popping in and out to tell you what I've been up to, but until then I hope you all have a wonderful summer. Without wellies!

Monday, 2 July 2012

Cancel Christmas for Rachel Lyndhurst because ...

...I just had all mine early and in one go.

Remember I told you I was going to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend? And I promised you pictures? Well, here we go:

Here's a snap of me with one of the vehicles that the Queen has travelled in - a great big Lincoln. Check out the cool  number plate!

And this is as close as I could get to a Bugatti Veyron Vitesse. Very luxe. Very pricey.

I was within a few steps of Chris Evans at one point, and he's definitely a millionaire, but I fumbled with my camera and missed the moment. Here, however is one of his Ferrari collection.

The lovely, generous man has  auctioned off the use of his collection to raise money for the charity Children In Need. According to  the Southern Daily Echo he's raised £1.5 million so far. Brilliant stuff!

Here's  Matt Baker's back (just in case any of you are desperate fans!).

Then I thought I heard angels singing ... and began to run (truly I did!).

And he was SO polite and kind and utterly charming ...

Yep, another dream come true - I met DAVID GANDY! Yes! David superdupermodel Gandy!

Now, those of you who know me, also know that this is a big deal for me. A Very Big Deal Indeed. So I forgot to take any arty photographs of vintage champagne, because I was too busy drinking lots of it. For the shock you understand.

And now I need a very long lie down ...

Surfacing ...

I've not posted for a few weeks (slaps own wrist) as I've been giving some light  revisions on my latest Entangled Indulgence book my full attention. Well, almost all of it ...

I have been outside the house a few times (not including Sainsbury's and Le Dump):

I finally made it to Exbury Gardens at its glorious best.

And the amazing walled rose garden at Mottisfont Abbey.

I wish you could smell it - just incredible.

I'll be sharing more pictures from these places in due course as tiny bits of them have sneaked their way into the book that's just been revised and another manuscript too. And this weekend I'm being taken to the Goodwood Festival of Speed! And you know what that means, don't you? Fast cars, planes, millionaires and champagne - hands on research that's just too good to waste. Putting the camera on charge now! My mind is racing towards another book already ...

I'll be back with some pics next week, but for now it's the Post Office and the laundry that await. Poor Cinders ...

Four websites I visit daily:

Novel Rank (OCD)

Barnes and Noble (more OCD)

Four favourite foods:

Roast pork crackling

Murgh Charga and fresh tandoor-baked naan

Anything with tzatziki in Greece.

Potato crisps

Four places I'd rather be:

Looking out over the sea from my (dream) cliff top Amalfi villa

Drinking fine wine in the sun in my (dream) castle with 10ft walls and no neighbours.

Somewhere it doesn’t rain during school holidays.

With The Exec, anywhere.

Four people I want to tag:

Teresa Morgan
Denyse King (D.J. Kirkby)
Sally Clements
Judy Jarvie

This is just a bit of fun, but if you've been tagged and you want to play, please make your own list and link back to me. :0)
